Have you ever been told that getting a root canal is an extremely unpleasant experience? Fortunately, this is a myth, but preventing the need for root canal therapy is still the better option. Yet, did you know that if you leave cavities untreated they can actually lead to root canal therapy because tooth decay can damage and spread through the center of your teeth? Generally, you should have a cavity filled as soon as you notice it to avoid this type of dental issue—but did you know that there are a number things you’ll need when you have a new filling?
For instance, once your filling has been placed, you’ll need to be careful with certain foods that you could eat. It is also recommended that you should avoid eating until your mouth isn’t numb. Otherwise, you could hurt and damage your tongue, cheek, or even your teeth. You should also try to avoid biting down on hard foods until your new filling has properly healed. Hot and cold drinks could also cause sensitivity until your tooth is healed.
If you’ve had a tooth filled recently, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any concerns you might have. We recommend calling us if biting down is painful or if you spot any new cracks in your newly-filled tooth. Finally, if you have dull or sharp pain in your tooth, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
