Facts About Dental Phobias

Posted .

You probably know that being afraid of the dentist is quite common. Similarly, you probably know that not visiting your dentist can lead to a number of problems—both in your mouth and with your overall health. Fortunately, there are a few things you can try to help with dental phobia.

Unfortunately, if you suffer from dental phobia, you could have to deal with a number of complications. For instance, you may have a hard time sleeping or suffer from extreme anxiety—which could even turn into an anxiety attack. Sadly, even when you’re able to sleep, you could find yourself suffering from nightmares. Sadly, this phobia may become worse as your appointment gets closer.

As you may have guessed, individuals who suffer from dental phobia could be at risk for tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss. While these issues are serious in and of themselves, did you know that avoiding your dentist can actually lead to a number of issues with your overall health? You see, if you have gum disease, bad bacteria could enter your bloodstream. From there, it can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, and even issues with your lungs.
